Scanning Guns

One of Tech-Way Industries‘ logistics customers contacted us with an order for 72,000 Pathfinder Ultra Scanning Guns, and they needed them delivered in only two to three weeks. Tech-Way’s experienced staff of engineers thrives on this kind challenge, and we began working on the complex assemblies immediately. Our engineers’ work generated the necessary tools, molds, dies, and fixtures to produce the scanning gun. 

The barcode scanner gun has an internal printer, USB port, programmable screen, and included Bluetooth transfer parameters and charging cradle.  We used multi-color two-stage overmolding with a two-stage rotary platen and heat shrink clamps to manufacture guns that are 9″ long, 3.5″ wide, and 11.25″ high. Flame-retardant materials, such as flexible black santoprene thermoplastic elastomer, polycarbonate thermoplastic polymer, and ABS thermoplastic, manufacturing to narrow tolerances of ±.001″. Texturing followed before the scanning guns were highly polished to SPE/SPI #2 standards, and laser engraved using Tech-Way’s 50 W diode pump fiber laser.

Tech-Way Industries provided pad printing, used to transfer a 2D image onto the 3D scanning gun, as well as labeling services. Custom color matching using the Pantone color system guaranteed customer satisfaction with the final aesthetics of the scanning guns, which were manufactured to both UL and CE standards. We engineered, fabricated, assembled, and delivered over 70,000 of these scanning guns to our customer in Miamisburg, Ohio, within a few weeks.
